Race Event Report
What a weekend at the Binder Lake Bash!
A big THANK YOU to the MICL community for adapting to all of nature’s curveballs with grace and plenty of smiles!
There was lightning, there were yellow jackets, there was heat, and there was mud that turned to dust, but all of this didn’t stop our courageous student athletes from rising to the challenge and lining up for the Binder Lake Bash. You even smashed all of our league participation records! Watching everyone come together for a great event in spite of the challenges was an incredible example of how this community lives by and exemplifies NICA’s core values: FUN, INCLUSIVITY, EQUITY, RESPECT, and COMMUNITY.
An extra special congratulations to all of the new student athletes who lined up their very first NICA mountain bike race. Remember, a RACE in the MICL is a “Really Awesome Challenging Event!” We think that the Binder Lake Bash certainly lived up to this description.
By the numbers:
- 480 Student Athletes participated
- 76 New 6th grade Student Athletes completed their first MICL mountain bike race (31 girls!)
- 36 Teams from Missouri and Illinois were represented
There were bubbles at the finish line, some pirates captured the GRiT Tent, and there were plenty of smiles and high-fives all around.
