Calling all coaches! Join us for the Kansas City area mini-coach retreat, a full day of on-the-bike skills instruction! New coaches or those who would like a refresher are invited to choose NICA’s on-the-bike 101 skills course in the morning and a super fun adventure bike games session in the afternoon.
Experienced coaches may choose to take NICA’s on-the-bike 201 skills course with a morning of intermediate skills and progressions followed by an afternoon of teaching practice. Both tracks will be filled with plenty of opportunities to brush up on your coaching and riding skills.
Lunch will be provided by the league.

OTB 101 and Adventure Games
Cost: $25
NICA’s on-the-bike 101 course fulfills the mountain bike skills coaching requirement to become a Level 2 coach and ride leader. You will receive an OTB 101 Field Guide and 3 hours of instruction to prepare you to teach and demonstrate fundamental MTB skills. The objective of this course is to provide a consistent skills coaching language across all of the NICA leagues. This maximizes student learning and limits confusion as they encounter many different coaches across the league. This course will also cover some tips for NICA practices including setting up a short course to optimize skill progression and FUN!
After a short lunch break, coaches will have the opportunity to learn and practice leading NICA recommended on-the-bike skill building and off-the-bike team building games. (12:30 PM – 2:30 PM)
Prerequisites:
- Coach participants MUST be fully registered in Pit Zone (have signed the NICA waiver and paid the season fee)
- Coaches must have completed the online portion of the OTB101 course found in Pit Zone.

OTB 201
Cost: $50
NICA’s on-the-bike 201 course is perfect for experienced coaches who would like to level up their skills coaching. You will receive an OTB 201 Field Guide and 5 hours of instruction to prepare you to teach and demonstrate intermediate MTB skills. The objective of this course is to provide skills progressions appropriate for NICA practices and activities. The first three hours of the course review fundamental skills and add plenty of games, progressions, and new skills. The final two hours of the course provide coaches with additional teaching practice and skills instruction with your peers. The course will include a lunch break.
Prerequisites:
- Coach participants MUST be fully registered in Pit Zone (have signed the NICA waiver and paid the season fee)
- Coaches must have completed the full OTB101 course.
